Programme 2010 to 2011

Wednesday 29th September 2010
We begin the new season with Joan Gaffiney who travels to Bulgaria, in a talk called “Across Bulgaria and Back” The journey is by car & a is very different Bulgaria from the Communist era beach holidays.

We are delighted to welcome Trevor Davenport who takes us on “A South American Odyssey” to Chilean Patagonia, Ecuadorian Highlands, the Galapagos, the Amazon & Atacama.

Wednesday 27th October 2010
Tony Duffey travels this year to “Vietnam and Cambodia”, showing us the people, countryside and monuments, including a visit to Angkor Wat.

Wednesday 10th November 2010
David Edwards F.R.G.S. spent 3 months living in the bush as leader of a youth expedition to “Botswana & the Okavango Delta”. He contrasts the Kalahari with the lush Okavango Delta.

Steuart & Anita Kellington won a prize of a luxury holiday to Italy and have called their evening “Italy- a Grand Tour” Different from their normal travels this will give us an insight into what can be won!

Tonight is Members’ Evening, when our own travellers tell us their stories. Dennis Leyland describes “Sardinia” the 55th country they visited, John Bleazard gives us “Bear Essentials” a glimpse into the world of the grizzly bear, in British Columbia, and Anne Morley makes visits to Christmas Markets in a “Tale of 3 Cities”, Tallin, Krakow, Budapest.

This year Pam Dowson’s journey is through “Tunisia.” She travels north through green Tunisia, with it souks and wonderful Roman sites, then south to the markets and oases of the desert.

Norman Harris is a man who enjoys a challenge. The one he is to tell us about is the journey “USA Coast to Coast by Harley Davidson.”

Brian Martland returns to take us from Le Puy, in France, to Santiago de Compostela , in Spain, by bicycle, the Pilgrims’ route to Santiago, in a talk called “A Thousand Hills to Santiago.”

Chris and Keith Buxton’s journey this year is to “Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundy” during the early autumn, an area that is, I think, new to the Association.

Geoff Somers M.B.E., Polar Medal. goes on “A Camel Odyssey” and recounts how he and his companion trained 3 wild camels & trekked 1,400 miles across the deserts of Western Australia. An amusing account of how they fared during 3 months in the “Outback”

Denise & Tony Collier are photographers who enjoy backpacking off the beaten track, getting to know local people, using local transport & staying in small hotels. They will share their experiences travelling in India, with “Images of Rajasthan” The journey includes a visit to the Pushkar Camel Fair.
